Guided by its management philosophy, “Shaping an Abundant and Affable Future for the World,” the Daio Group has begun providing an environmentally friendly “paper” RFID tag (*1), SpeeMa Eco Label, that eliminates use of plastic film (PET film) in order to contribute to the achievement of a sustainable society. Most RFID tags use a plastic film as the base material for fastening an aluminum antenna, but SpeeMa Eco Label has an inlay (*2) that forms the antenna with a conductive ink on a paper base. Going forward, we will combine our paper processing and inlay manufacturing technologies to enhance the product lineup and by providing SpeeMa Eco Label make a further contribution to a more sustainable society.

(*1)RFID stands for radio frequency identification. It is a technology for using radio waves to simultaneously read information on multiple IC chips embedded in a tag from a remote location.

(*2)An inlay connects an antenna to an IC chip.

Autonomous Collaborative Robot with RFID IC Tags

Daio Paper is developing an autonomous collaborative robot, PEER SpeeMa+, that uses RFID tags with the aim of helping to achieve SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure). PEER SpeeMa+ gathers positioning data in real time by combining information from multiple state-of-the-art sensors and provides support for work processes while collaborating with human workers. It can also move autonomously without the route being set in advance; it chooses the optimal way to go itself while avoiding obstacles. The robot moves to the product, and the worker only needs to put the product in the robot’s cart. The product is confirmed using its RFID label to improve work efficiency and thereby help reform working formats.
